Established in the summer of 2000, Hvaroom Gallery first graced the Belvedere terrace within the historic Babić House on Hvar's Pjaca. Evolving with time, the gallery relocated to a more expansive space on the first floor of the same house, parting ways with the flower atelier it once shared its creative confines with.
Transforming the authentic interior of a communal living room into an inspiring gallery-exhibition space, the Babić House, affectionately known as "Grandma's House," metamorphosed into a multifaceted studio, gallery, shop, and a living room – the room of Hvar, finally coined as Hvaroom.
Originally conceived as a haven for artistic expression, Hvaroom gradually blossomed into a living museum, fostered through collaborations with talented artist friends. This unique space became an incubator for ideas and projects, redefining the traditional role of an author's gallery.
Hvaroom played a pivotal role in the conception and realization of the Hvar For Art festival, a biennial event hosted at various locations in the city of Hvar – including the Loggia, Arsenal, Fontik, Veneranda, and Pjaca, the city's main square.
This dynamic festival not only showcased the works of numerous visual artists and musicians but also revitalized neglected city areas, acting as a cultural acupuncture for the city.
Hvaroom's journey persisted along its planned trajectory, delving into the exploration of Hvar's local architecture and symbols. The Cathedral, agave, and Dalmatian black pine became recurring motifs, capturing the essence of the city on the island across canvases, textiles, and visuals.
The Cathedral, in particular, found prominence in over ten art cycles, symbolizing the intertwining of art with the island's cultural identity.
Beyond paintings, Galerija Hvaroom collaborated with Ibis grafika+ publishing house and the Hvar City Library and Reading Room to present several editions of poetry books, picture books, and the art book "Akvarij More."
Rooted in a profound love for the sea, swimming, and the unique mystique of the islands, these creations resonate with the enchanting blue note of the South, seen by the author as the sole destination worth visiting and revisiting.
Why?
Because blue is different here.
Extending its reach into the virtual realm, Hvaroom thrives through news, blogs, and an online museum shop, carrying the island spirit to homes both near and far.
