hvaroom maja jelusic hvar for art
Island.

Impervious, limited, distant, lonesome, sinking, abandoned in winter, colorful in summer, hungry in spring and serene in autumn.

Hvar is all that, when not pampered.

That is also how his co-fellows are, scattered in the sea, each one searching for the piece of land it had been broken off from.

Obstinate, defiant and unique.

Different. An island is an artist. An island is a sculpture on a sea pedestal.

Art festival HVAR FOR ART is a kind of homage to Hvar of the 80’s, when artists occupied towns main square Pjaca, and their works and way of living captured essence of life in those days.

Nikša Barišić-Art and Marin Ribarić are two artists that marked this era, not only with their work but with their lives, and were precursor of branding Hvar as a place of laid back tourism, as oppose to today’s perception.

As authoring project by gallery Hvaroom with the support of association Forske užonce, our tendency is to introduce artists from Hvar in the heart of the season and in the center of town, in order to represent their original works, as opposite to the commercial stands, where very few of them bring creativity and authenticity of the island cultural heritage.

Also, intention is to round touristic offer, or to be more accurate to show other side of sunny Hvar, hidden and untrammeled, but very much alive. The presentation of domestic artist is imagined as classical exhibition, and also as a fair of art, in the way that artists represent their process of creating showing experientially something that is often concealed from the public eyes.

In the attempt to make this art fest a traditional thing, beside island artist we called are friends from all over, in order not just to evoke some past times, but with some music and multimedia make coulisse for rather new experience of Hvar.
